How to: Feel Better and Live Happier!

Hey there beautiful readers! I decided to start my blog off by writing about my anxiety and although it was hard to do, it feels so good to have put that out there. But here's the thing, although my anxiety is very consuming and is a big part of my day to day, it is not who I am. I am not my anxiety, I just have anxiety and I deal with it. For a very long time I researched online for way to make me feel better and happier on bad days but many of the ideas I read and tried did not work for me. Lots of them did help a lot and so I wanted to share them with you and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Things that make me calm down and feel happier:

1- Put my hair up in a big, loose bun and put on your most comfy outfit!

  • I know this may sound silly, but there's nothing worse that being stressed and have your hair in your face or be wearing some tight skinny jeans with some uncomfortable shoes!
  •  What do I like to wear? A big loose shirt dress with some socks with cute prints on them!

2- Take my dog, Koko, on a walk.

  • I have made it part of my daily routine to take him for a walk around my neighborhood. When I'm doing this, I like listening to my favorite book on Audible (if I bought one that month) or search for a playlist that goes with my mood on Spotify.
  •  Walking and breathing fresh air helps me unwind and let go of my anxiety.

3- Run a warm bubble bath.
  • This is probably one of my favorites as bubbles have the amazing power of making me happy no matter what. I stay in there for as long as I need to.
4- Workout!
  • You read right, get moving! I know you have heard of this a thousand times, and you probably think you don't have time or (insert your own). BUT, there are very, very hard workout videos on You Tube that are only like 12 minutes long! And you Do have 12 minutes or so.
  • By the way, I want to start the Catching Fire Challenge . If any of you have done it, let me know if you have liked it!
5- Write your thoughts down.
  • While I write on my journal, I think: If its on paper, it's off your mind for now. (Try it!)
6- Pray.
  • One of the most powerful for me. As I am a Christian, I really believe that prayer is ever so calming. I try to remind myself to live by faith not by sight. And by doing this, I get a lot of weight off my shoulders.
7- Drink hot chocolate!
  • Not just drink your hot chocolate, but create the perfect atmosphere to do so. Even if its just for 5 minutes, disconnect from the world. Put your phone (& possibly your mind) on Airplane Mode. Light up some candles, put those extra, tiny marshmallows on your hot chocolate, & play your favorite music. Enjoy!
8- Listen to Relaxing Apps.
  • I have become obsessed with this! My absolute favorite is the Calm app. I like putting on ocean or rain sounds. There's this meditation challenge on there I have been doing right before falling asleep and to say I love it is an understatement!
9- Search on Pinterest for motivational quotes.
  • I have created boards full of photos with quotes or images that make me feel so happy and calm. Check them out here! Sometimes, just the smallest little happy quotes are the perfect way to light up your day! Create your own boards & share them with me! :)
10- Talk it out.
  • Call the people you trust the most and talk about your day. I know I said to write down your thoughts, but sometimes you need feedback, and a journal can't do that. The people I love to talk to always know what to say to calm me down, to shut down my anxiety and make me feel better.
I hope those ideas help! Remember to always try different things and notice the ones that really work for you as we are all unique. If you try any of the once I just mentioned or if you have any to add, please leave them in the comment section below! Thanks for reading!

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy. ♥

With love,
Nikole

  2. Very good ideas! When I am feeling anxious nothing beats taking my dog on a walk, getting some fresh air and sunshine. Eating healthy and exercising are awesome for feeling pumped and motivated if I can get the motivation to do get started. Lol. For me, getting dressed up nice, doing my hair and makeup helps me to feel less anxious as then I feel like I am up and getting things done. Also, snuggling with my cat is very, very good for anxiety :)

    1. Hey Natalie!♥ Pet walks and cuddles are the best! I think they totally notice when their owners are not doing very well! I know when I'm having a bad day, my doggy is always extra loving with me! It's so special. I totally agree, getting all dolled up is another awesome tip! If you know that you are taking care of yourself no matter what, it helps calm you down! Thank you for sharing that and for reading! xx
